Loughmans Garage was established by Mr Michael Loughman at this fathers home in Bennettsbridge in or around May 1950.
Michael(Mick) Loughman had served his time to Vincent Smith of Leinster Street, Athy at his garage.
Then he worked in the family haulage business , when that business finished he went to the board of works on the Barrow drainage scheme repairing drainage machinery and drawing them.
He then worked in CIE garage in Athy repairing the fleet of trucks they had.
He became very good at this work. He left CIE in 1950 and started Loughmans Garage Ltd.
He was shortly followed to Bennettsbridge by David, Sean and Edmund his 3 sons who left school to work in the garage.
David became involved in diesel injection a new technology at the time, Sean in the general repair and engine building and Edmund in the auto electrical area.
Over the years the brothers grew the business to a point where there were over 40 people on staff.
David moved into car sales around 1976 and grew that business to become a Peugeot main dealership.
Over the years Loughmans Garage became known far and wide for their ability to provide a service of excellence and remained at the cutting edge of development in the motor industry for many years.
In 2000 the 3 brothers went their separate ways after 50 years working together.
Loughmans Garage is now run by Paul Loughman, son of Sean.
They specialise in CVRT testing for light goods vehicles still offering a quality, friendly service to the people of the area.
