How long before I get the CRW?
CRW will be posted out in 3/4 working days from the passing of the CRW test.
Is the certificate in my name if the registration is in the old owner’s name?
If there is a change of ownership on the vehicle then the new owner must wait until the vehicle registration is received in their name and then the CRW will be issued into the new owners name.
Can I tax the vehicle on the day it passes it’s test?
A pass statement will be issued on the day which will enable the vehicle to be taxed providing all details like owners name is correct and no change of ownership is pending on the vehicle.
I just bought the vehicle so is it OK not to have a certificate?
A change of ownership will not affect the expiry date of the CRW and will not be an acceptable reason for a vehicle missing its annual CVRT.
What happens if the last test is over a year ago?
When a vehicle has missed more than 12 months since it’s last expiry date, a CRW will issue for 6 months.
Can the CVRT be done in advance?
A vehicle can be tested up to 30 days in advance of the current CRW expiry (eg expiry 31.05.16 but can be tested as early as 01.05.16)
How long is the test valid for?
When a vehicle is tested on time a 12 month CRW will be issued.
If a vehicle is tested late the CRW will issue for the reminded of the time (e.g. expiry 31.12.15 tested 28.02.16 CRW expiry 31.12.16)
Do I need any ID?
The presenter of the vehicle must bring their Drivers License or Passport on the day of the test.
What is the weight limit for a LCV test?
LCV testing covers any commercial vehicle up to 3500kg Gross Vehicle Weight. This includes vans, 4 x 4, Crew cabs , carvans , motor caravans , jeeps , pick ups , campers.
What’s the difference between CVRT, LCV, MOT and DOE?
Commercial vehicle testing was introduced in Ireland in1980 functioning under the local county councils.
It was called a DOE test or MOT test, more recently they changed the name to VTN Testing.
Two years ago the entire network was taken over by the RSA and rebranded CVRT – Compartmental Central – Road Traffic Act 2012.
What happens if my van or jeep fails it’s LCV test?
If a vehicle fails the CVRT, the vehicle must be repaired and tested within 21 days or before 4000kms whichever happens first.
A test report will be issued and will contain all the repairs that need to be carried out.
The test report will also indicate if the vehicle needs a visual reset (no charge) or an equipment retest (€43.58 inc VAT)
If the vehicle fails to return within the 21 days or 4000 kms then a full test fee with a applicable.
How much does a LCV Test Cost?
The booking is for a LGV VTN Test . The test itself costs €87.16 including VAT and is payable upon completion of your test.
There is an additional levy charged by the RSA of €24.00 payable at the time of the test.

When is your test due?
The first anniversary of the your vehicle’s first registration is the date when your annual LCV test is due.
LCV (Ligh Commercial Vehicle) is any vehicle that has a gross vehicle weight of 3500kgs or less.
Remember to bring your drivers license or your passport with you.
Even if you don’t use your van or jeep commercially and you tax it privately , you will still need to get an LCV test , not an NCT.
